quick and long-term effects
introduction
Sensitive teeth and tooth necks are increasingly common problems in modern society. In order to keep the quality of life of the patient high and the pain as low as possible, appropriate applications in the form of toothpaste and mouthwash should have a short-term effect on the one hand and last long-term on the other.
Question
Is there an effect of hydroxyapatite on sensitive teeth and how quickly can it be measured?
material and methods
Two clinical studies were carried out to measure the effect of hydroxyapatite on sensitive teeth. Both studies were double-blinded and randomized. The subjects were randomly divided into groups and were given toothpastes over a period of 3 days or 8 weeks, all of which were supposed to be effective against pain-sensitive teeth. One of these toothpastes contained hydroxyapatite. At the end of the study and during follow-up visits, tooth sensitivity was checked using various tests. These included tactile tests, air, heat and cold.
Results
Both in the study, which checked the sensitivity to pain after three days, and in the long-term study, the results of the hydroxylapatite-containing toothpaste were very positive. In the majority of the patients, a reduction in pain sensitivity could be identified after 3 days, which was still present after 8 weeks.
conclusion
Regular use of a hydroxylapatite toothpaste clinically leads to a reduction in pain sensitivity after just three days of use. Hydroxyapatite also has a long-term effect on sensitive teeth.
